This pedestrian bridge over the canal connects the shopping area to a parking lot and a playground.

This little sitting area, located at the other end of the pedestrian bridge over the canal, offers shoppers a place to rest, relax, and converse.

Here is the parking lot.

Notice how the heavy landscaping of trees and shrubs hides the automobiles from downtown Hemel Hempstead.

Note the playground in the background.

The playground appears to have been an after-thought.  A portion of the parking lot was fenced off and the playground installed on the asphalt parking surface.

Planners have to be flexible and make changes based on experience.
