English New Towns were often added on to existing towns.  The houses on the right pre-date the founding of Hemel Hempstead.

The road in the foreground is for through traffic.  The road on the other side of the median is for the residents of the old houses.

The older housing undoubtedly increased in value when a New Town "downtown" was constructed nearby.

This house illustrates that older housing, when properly maintained, will remain desirable and hold or increase in value.
