This book is a text-novel. It uses the novel format to tell about young people working to help pass the Civil Rights Act of 1964, while at the same time teaching the major facts and principles of American Government.

An auto-biographical account of Robert D. Loevy's experiences working as a newspaper reporter in Baltimore, Maryland, during the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s. The memoire concludes with Loevy's work as a senatorial aide at the time of U.S. Senate consideration (and filibuster) of the bill that became the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
