Response Rates

  • Response rates are important to your research because a low response rate can be detrimental to your sample, making it unrepresentative or too small.
  • Generally, response rates are better with face-to-face and telephone interviews.
  • In samples which the people are interested in the subject, however, response rates can be similar.
  • Not only are general response rates important, but who responds is also important.
    • Biases in your results can occur because of low response rates.
    • Gaining access to certain groups of people can be difficult, and even getting a lost of the entire population who you wish to study can be difficult or even impossible.
