Cultural Event Writing Assignment

During the first three weeks of the course, you should attend at least one cultural event on campus.  This could be a public lecture, a concert or dance performance, a play, a film, or the opening of an art exhibit. (If you have other ideas, talk to Kathy.)  To get ideas of possible events see the CC online calendar or look for postings around campus. I will also try to mention possibilities in class.  After you attend, write a one page paper (~500 words) that conveys a sense of the event to a reader who may not have attended.  In addition to a description of the event, your write-up should include your own reactions (analysis or critique) of the performance, film, exhibit or lecture.  If you find any connections to the themes we have discussed in class, explain these connections.  You do not need to consult any outside sources (i.e. reviews in newspapers, biographical material) to write your paper.  If you do, be sure to give a complete bibliographical reference.
