Topic: Your paragraph / essay should cover some of the following points:

Either: John Napier invented logarithms. What calculation advantage did this give him? What were the calculations he was making, and why were they important? Why did he want a better method for carrying out those calculations? What about modern applications of the logarithm?  How does the logarithm interact with the exponential function?

Or: Descartes described humankind's incapability to ever be able to calculate the length of a curve. Describe how this can in fact be done using calculus? You might include bibliographic data on Descartes year of birth / death, and how long we would have had to wait to be proved wrong!

This assignment is due on the morning after the quiz was due, and should be 300 - 400 words long, not including any equations / diagrams you might want to include.
