Alternative to the Alternative

You may study and write a short essay about one of the Borges stories below, to replace one of your quiz alternatives this block.

Examine one of the following Borges stories. Discuss how the story relates to some of the mathematical themes we have been discussing the past two blocks. You may wish to include literary references (to the genuine rather than sources which Borges sometimes fabricate).

  • The Garden of Forking Paths.

  • The Lottery in Babylon.

  • The Immortal.
Makes references to Homer's Odyssey and Iliad
  • The House of Asterion.
Makes references to the legend of Theseus and Ariadne

You may obtain a copy of one of these stories from me, if you don't have access through a personal copy or from the library.

This assignment is due on the morning after the quiz was due, and should be 400 words long.
