Sections Covered: Sections 7.8 and 8.1 and 8.2
Topics: Improper integrals. Comparison Test for integrals. Calculating arclength, surface area.
To Prepare: Review the Mean Value theorem
Quiz Three: Sections 7.4 (integration by parts) 7.6 (integration using tables) and 7.7 (approximate integration - I will ask you to approximate using one of the five rules (midpoint, left endpoint, right endpoint, trapezoid or Simpson's rule with a SMALL number for n. Calculators will be allowed for Quiz three).
 

 

Tuesday  
Sections Covered: More on Section 8.2, Part of Section  8.3. Section 8.5 
Topics: Surface area. Hydrostatic Pressure. Mean and Median of a probability distribution. 
To Prepare:  
Quiz Four: Section 7.7 more on numerical integration. Section 7.8 Improper integrals. Calculators and Mathematica are allowed. 
Homework Three: Due by 5 p.m. today.

 

Wednesday  
Sections Covered: Topics from Chapter 9
Topics: Differential Equations - Euler's method, separable equations, predator prey problems
To Prepare:

 

Thursday  
MIDTERM - NO CLASS  
Lab Two: 1:30 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. in Palmer 14.

 

Friday  
Sections Covered: Sections 10.1 to 10.3
Topics: Parametric equations, tangents and areas. In Section 10.3 we will cover arclength only. Possible introduction to Polar Coordinates. Cycloids
