Our sustainability
project was designed to reduce Colorado College’s ecological footprint by decreasing the energy
consumption of computers on campus. One large component of our project focused on the
energy consumption of computer labs at Colorado
College. Knowing there was a lot of
energy being wasted from the lab
computers that were left running all day, everyday we sought reform. Our
project implemented the turning off of lab computers at night, and updating and
installing power saving features on these 198 computers. The other main component of our project was education. While our education
manly focused on ways to run a computer more efficiently it also addressed
things to think about when purchasing a computer, as well as disposing a
computer. By
informing the Colorado College community about their
computer’s impacts on the earth they would have the knowledge to make
sustainable computing choices. With this education we hope that students,
faculty, and staff will make an effort to conserve their energy and support
efforts of conservation, to reduce Colorado College’s ecological footprint.
