Baca Lodges in the Fall

Colorado College maintains a Baca campus located 175 miles southwest of Colorado Springs at the western base of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains in the San Luis Valley. Managed by the Hulbert Center for Southwest Studies, Baca conference center, townhouse facilities, and lodge are available for use by classes and other college groups.

The Desert Sage Restaurant is contracted by Colorado College to provide meals for groups visiting Baca. Please obtain a Baca Sign-Up Sheet from your department or Susan Nishida at extension 6649. We encourage everyone to attend a Baca Orientation class. You must submit the Baca Sign-Up Sheet to the Gold Card Office at least three working days prior to departure.

Students on meal plans will have meals deducted while attending Baca. Students not on meal plans will have their student account billed per meal. Students are not allowed to sign over their meals to defray the costs of another classmate's trip. A student who feels they cannot afford the cost of a trip to Baca should contact the Gold Card Office.

Students should not be encouraged to bring food to Baca. Snacks can most likely be construed as the exception to this rule (nobody is going to get kicked out of the lodge for bringing a bag of chips). Snacks and beverages can be purchased from Desert Sage and/or Crestone Grocery store. As a good neighbor, we should encourage this practice as opposed to packing in our own food.

Upon arrival at Baca, the person in charge of the group should contact the restaurant, advise the staff of any special diet requirements, and give the restaurant an idea of schedules and times to serve meals. Upon request, Desert Sage is willing to stay open at night to accommodate students. They will also prepare meals to go, however, they do require sufficient notice to prepare box meals.

The Desert Sage bills the Business Office after each class. Faculty / Group leaders are to sign a copy of the bill at the conclusion of their stay at Baca.
