A typical Colorado Springs trolley car about 1896.  Note the car was open at the sides so riders could enjoy cool fresh air during hot summer rides across town.

A somewhat more modern Colorado Springs street car with enclosed sides and windows.  As time passed, street cars were built in larger sizes, could carry more passengers, and could travel at higher speeds.  Photo taken c. 1901.

Open air street cars came in large as well as small sizes.  Some of these open-air cars were called "convertibles" and had sides and windows that could be added on for service in cold and inclement weather.  Photo taken c. 1913.
