In 1861 Montgomery was designated the
first capital of the Confederate States of America. This
building was the first Confederate "White House."
The Confederate capital later moved to Richmond, Virginia. |
This is a Montgomery city bus in 2002.
In December 1954, the bus system in Montgomery was racially segregated. Blacks had to ride in the back of the bus while whites rode in the front. |
