The negotiations continued along with the marches and sit-in demonstrations.

Civil rights leaders demanded racial integration of all public accommodations in Birmingham, including restaurants and snack bars.  There also were demands for more African-Americans to be employed in downtown stores where large numbers of black persons shopped.
