ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Robert D. Loevy was born in St. Louis, Missouri, on February 26, 1935. He received his A.B. from Williams College in 1957 and his Ph.D. from Johns Hopkins University in 1963. While at Johns Hopkins he conducted research and wrote position papers for the House of Representatives Republican Policy Committee.

During the 1963-1964 academic year, he served as an American Political Science Association Congressional Fellow in the office of United States Senator Thomas H. Kuchel, of California, the Republican floor manager in the Senate for the civil rights bill that later became the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

In 1968 Loevy joined the faculty at Colorado College in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where he currently serves as professor of political science. His major research interests include presidential elections, Colorado politics and government, and Congress and civil rights.

He is the author of two books on United States presidential elections. The first was The Flawed Path to the Presidency 1992: Unfairness and Inequality in the Presidential Selection Process. The second was The Manipulated Path To The White House 1996: Maximizing Advantage In The Presidential Selection Process.

Loevy also wrote The Flawed Path To the Governorship 1994: The Nationalization Of A Colorado Statewide Election, and To End All Segregation: The Politics of the Passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
He is the editor of The Civil Rights Act of 1964: The Passage of the Law that Ended Racial Segregation, and he is the co-author of Colorado Politics and Government: Governing the Centennial State. He was one of a group of authors of a high school civics text entitled American Government: We Are One.

In 1999, upon the occasion of the 125th Anniversary of the founding of Colorado College, Loevy wrote Colorado College: A Place Of Learning, 1874-1999.
