The French do not need a street and a sidewalk to have a sidewalk cafe. Sidewalk cafes are just as engaging and relaxing when situated along a large pedestrian plaza adjacent to a beach. |
Le Grande Motte was designed to an
overall Mexican theme.
The pyramid-shaped buildings were patterned after Mayan temples. A hotel is named "Acapulco" for the Mexican seaside resort. |
"Espaces verts," or green
spaces, said the blueprint.
It showed a series of grass-filled open spaces along the beach that were to be installed at Le Grande Motte. Pedestrian traffic was to cross the grassy areas on raised wooden boardwalks, such as this one. |
The "espaces verts" separate one area of high-intensity activity from another, with the boardwalks providing pleasant walkways between them. |
