Paper and Related Money Waste at
CC
To get an idea of the paper waste at CC, we decided to investigate paper waste in two labs. We picked two public labs on campus; the Barnes PC lab, located in Barnes Science Center, and the Loomis lab, located on the ground floor of Loomis Hall. We checked the two labs once every two days, recording waste paper in the labs, and amount of paper printed in the last 24 hours, which we calculated using the information found in print configuration menu.
Date of Paper Collection | Loomis Ground Floor Lab Waste Paper in 24 hrs. | Total 24 hour Printing in Loomis Lab | % Waste Paper Printed in Loomis | Barnes PC Lab Waste Paper in 24 hrs. | Total 24 hour Printing in Barnes | % Waste Paper Printed in Barnes |
Tues, 10/14/03 | 65 | 627 | 10% | 64 | 427 | 15% |
Wed, 10/15/03 | 48 | 1082 | 4.4% | 28 | 476 | 6% |
Thurs, 10/16/03 | 88 | 771 | 11.4% | 51 | 428 | 12% |

Sat, 10/18/03 | 37 | 425 | 8.7% | 33 | 398 | 8.3% |
Average paper waste in Loomis lab: 9.7%
Average paper waste in Barnes PC lab: 10.1%
Total sheets of paper wasted in both labs: 390(loomis) + 254(barnes) = 644 sheets
Total money wasted on paper in one week in both labs: $10.75
The total money wasted on paper in just two labs was found to be over ten dollars. Although this seems rather insignificant, this is only five days worth of collection in two labs on campus.
