Freight trains as well as passenger trains ran past the semaphores.

This was the eastbound "Ice Cold Express," a special train of refrigerated RoadRailers.

These semaphores were still working in Colorado in 2000.

They were later replaced with more modern "searchlight" signals.

Amazingly,  semaphore signals dating from the 1920s were controlling one of the railroad's newest and fastest trains.

Further down the line in Colorado, the RoadRailer train passed one of the newer style "trilight" signals that were replacing the semaphores.
