Textbook: A First Course in Probability, by Sheldon Ross
We shall cover most of the first 8 chapters of this book.
Class Schedule: class daily at 9 AM; in addition, problem sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 1:30 p.m.
Exams: There will be a midterm and a final. These are both closed book, notes and colleagues. Each will count for 35% of your course grade.
Homework: There will be one written homework assignment per week, due on Monday afternoons, by 3:30 p.m. On these Honor Problems, you should consult only your notes, your text and me! In addition, I will provide a regular list of suggested problems. Your are encouraged to discuss these with your classmates, as well as with me. At the problem sessions I will select some of these problems to be worked at the board. Come prepared to do so! I hope to run the problem sessions on a volunteer basis; I will expect everyone to participate. Your Honor Problem score will count for 20% of your grade, and your participation in the Problem Session will count for 10% of your grade.
