Essay #1

In class we discussed the proposition that “calculus is the science of the infinite”. In this brief essay you should address this proposition. Is it an accurate or complete description of what calculus is? Does all calculus involve “the infinite”? On the other hand, do all considerations of infinity necessarily involve the calculus? Your essay will undoubtedly visit some of the topics we discussed in class, but be sure to bring in some ideas that we didn’t address there.

Your essay should be about 1000 words long. It should summarize your thoughts on this topic, as you’ve experienced it in this class and elsewhere; it is not a research paper, and you need not consult any outside sources (unless you wish).
